About Rough Draft

Rough Draft is a small Melbourne publisher, started in 2011 by Michael Hanrahan, with the aim of publishing high-quality fiction and non-fiction by Australian and international authors. Our first book, Pet Tails, is a fundraiser for the RSPCA, and has raised over $25,000 so far to help animals. Our second book, Diet Tips for Busy Chicks, is an entertaining and informative healthy eating and living guide for busy women.

Michael is assisted at Rough Draft by Anna Clemann, who holds a degree in Journalism and Literature as well as a Graduate Diploma in Public Relations, and has bookshop experience. Michael is often hindered at Rough Draft by a cat and a dog who both have Masters Degrees in Getting in the Way While People Are Trying to Work.

Our books are available from good bookshops, online, or call us on (03) 9888 9549.

Hi, I'm Michael Hanrahan. I'm the publisher at Rough Draft. My father was a writer, so I grew up in a house overflowing with books. I've inherited his love of words and writing, which is why I chose to work in publishing. I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Writing and Editing at Deakin University in 1997, and have since worked in-house and as a freelancer. I have held the positions of editor, production coordinator and managing editor at Wrightbooks and John Wiley & Sons Australia. I have worked with many bestselling authors, and have freelance experience in writing and editing for a wide range of clients, including writing book reviews for Australian Book Review and other magazines.

My name is Anna Clemann. I have a degree in Journalism and Literature as well as a Graduate Diploma in Public Relations. I have worked as a publicist in the publishing industry and as a marketing coordinator for not-for-profit organisations. I have years of experience writing media releases for all mediums and tailoring marketing plans for specific purposes and audiences, as well as writing copy for advertorials, newsletters, websites and brochures. I also spent several years working in a bookshop, and I have recently completed a Diploma of Arts (Applied Photography).
